Fat
Quarters by Emily Ford, John Rose & Melia Mason
(30 + Projects) For the quilters who have accumulated far more fat quarters than you’ll ever use in this lifetime, you know who you are, this book provides a fun solution to the situation. Included in the book are over thirty projects utilizing fat quarters of fabric. The projects include pillows, wall hangings, covers for candles and baskets, birdhouses, planters, and jars, as well as place mats, padded picture frames and photo albums. There is also a clever and attractive window valance that can be made using a “no sew” method. The skill level required ranges from beginner to advanced. There are excellent ideas for engaging the interest of non-sewers, such as the colorful “no sew” valance, fabric covered birdhouses, picture frames and albums. For the novice sewer, there are pillows and potholders. The Bear’s Paw pillow and some of the wall hangings would appeal to the intermediate and advanced sewer. My favorite project, which I plan to make, is the cover project; “Catnap Cuddle-Ups, an adorable stuffed mommy cat and kittens. The instructions are clear and complete, drawings helpful and the photos inspiring. Review by Diana Norris |
