Quilting To Soothe the
Soul by Linda Carlson If you work with your hands, you already know continual repetitive movements are relaxing and therapeutic, especially when the end result is a creative endeavor. Linda will guide you with ideas and projects to work through your grief, tragedy or difficulties in life. There are 15 quilt projects with motifs and patterns you can mix and match or work the projects just as they are presented. There are several patterns including angels, flowers, doves, bouquets, menorahs and crosses. The projects are appropriate for both beginners as well as advanced quilters. Linda has provided a short history of burial, memorial and celebratory quilts. The quilt gallery subjects include 9/11 victims, loss of family members and friends, however, there are also celebratory quilts after surviving illness and other medical emergencies. Although the subject matter is very heavy, taking a look at each quilt individually, I found many of them inspiring and peaceful to view. If you would like to work through your difficult times with a memory quilt then this is the book for you. Review by Lydia F Borin |
