The Beadgang has published a book of amulet purses in many motifs using peyote and brick stitch techniques. Some patterns can be made with a choice of using either technique. It is assumed that you already know peyote and brick stitch techniques and no instructions or illustrations are included for beginners. There is no statement at the beginning of this book to indicate no instructions are included. I have to say this bugs me. It is great for those who love patterns and already have mastered the techniques but beginners are left out in the cold.

Each patterns includes a full color graph, color image of the finished bag, color guide, title of the bag, designer and most include a helpful tip. Some of the patterns include more than one color grid so you can see how you could make the same purse over and over again in various color combinations. The patterns are set up so you can work the front and continue on to make the back all in one piece.

The graphs are very clear, require only a few bead colors per bag and do not have massive color graduations; bright and intense color and defined lines bring out the patterns.

My favorite is Sunflower Serenade, a glorious flower on both sides of the bag that takes up the whole bag space and the top opening is not one straight piece, instead petal pieces break up the top opening and certainly enhances the overall appearance of the bag. Crystal corsage has three dimensional petals sticking from the bag and Golden Pharaoh is a classic look. Hawaiian Sunset is a very pretty bag and could be from anywhere in the world that is tropical.

There are 17 bag designs in the book. No instructions are included for the fringe and dangle embellishment or finishing of each bag. This book is for beaders who have already mastered peyote and brick stitch techniques and embellishment, fringing and dangle techniques. If you are a beginner, you will need to purchase a book on beading techniques before you can make any of the projects in this book.
