At first glance this book might look complex, but if you go through page by page, you will see each design is broken down to the smallest element for ease in recreating it.  You can easily follow the graphs, illustrations and instructions for creating these designs  in beading, fiberart, drawings or other artwork.  At the front of the book is general "plotting" tips if you want to first draw very specific designs on graph paper before converting it to other mediums.

There are chapters on small and large hearts and there is no doubt heart lovers will find several motifs they like.  You learn how to extend the bottom and the top of patterns, how to form large and small loops, straight lines and corner motifs.    Zoomorphic designs are next which include animal, reptile, fish and bird motifs.   I liked the fish patterns best.  Plant motifs are discussed and then on to creating your own designs.

Chapter 21 explains how to use knotwork designs in other crafts such as as bobbin lace, needlepoint lace, quilling, cross stitch, embroidery, embossing, glass paperweights, burnt-wood etching , knitting and other techniques.  Color images of items using these techniques are provided.

I make several Celtic motifs using Softflex wire with seed beads strung on it.    I use a foam core board, T-pins to hold down the Softflex as I work out the design and finish with a crimp bead and fiber cover.  You can create many designs from this book using Softflex wire and beads to create jewelry, belts and other accessories.   Many of the designs would look stunning created in yarns and threads too.     There is also a short history on Celtic Knotwork and other interesting tidbits included.
