A Bead Crochet Primer by McKenzie Leopold
Spiral Softbound, 40pgs, $9.00 E-book at www.mknzedesigns.com , or $14.50 print mail book, Mknze Designs,  Carey, NC, 919-649-2853

McKenzie has created a book for everyone who wants to make bead slip stitched ropes and have never tried or not mastered those first three rounds and finishing techniques.  The E-book includes both left and right-handed illustrations and instructions. There are provisions for those who are left-handed and ordering via the postal service.

Her instructions are very clear and easy to understand.  The illustrations are large; some encompass a whole page, to make sure you understand the process.  Each bead in the first round is explained as to their placement.  You will see how to hold your hands, where the beads move from one hand to the other and how to hold the hook.  My preference is to hold the hook like a knife.

After finishing the step-by-step illustrations, there is a review of what you have done so far.  McKenzie offers suggestions for bead color combinations to better see what you are doing plus other tips.

The second round follows with illustrations to show where you place the first bead and how they should set once they are crocheted.  Explanations are provided for consecutive rounds to continue building the rope.

McKenzie offers two methods for finishing the rope ends.  Included are, how to add a bead cap, designer bead and how to make continuous ropes.  There is an illustration of a spiral pattern rope using six bead colors, and illustrations depicting how to connect the ends together.

There is a resource list for related books and online retail websites.  McKenzie has put together a nifty little book that clarifies bead slip stitch in a very easy to understand format.  If you want to learn the basics and finishing of a bead slip stitched rope, McKenzie’s A Bead Crochet Primer is for you.
