Vogue Knitting Crochet Scarves - On The Go! ISBN 1-931543-42-9, Hardbound, 87pgs, $12.95US, Sixth & Spring Books, , PO Box 1808, Altoona, PA 16603, call Vogue at 877-860-6164 US Here is a yummy book for crocheters! The scarf on the cover grabbed my attention immediately. Wind Chimes by Anna Mishka is a sumptuous scarf with little circular swirls hanging from open sections of crocheted motifs. The example is worked in multiple color motifs; however, you could make them all of a variegated yarn for a completely different look. The pattern is worked in motif pieces and then put together to make the scarf. This pattern is a very easy Vogue using basic stitches, minimal shaping and simple finishing. I made one of the motifs quickly and since you make them individually, you can make one or two and then a few more later until you have enough to make the scarf. If you are brand new to crochet, try the mesh pattern stole and eyelash scarf before working this pattern. It is not difficult, however, it would be tricky for a beginner. There are scarf patterns with floral, cable, plaid, spoke and wave motifs. The granny type motifs are worked with subdued and muted colors, giving a contemporary appearance for today’s crocheters. Each pattern was worked in pleasing colors and the photos are arranged in attractive configurations. There are 17 scarf patterns, 3 shawls, 3 stoles and 2 neck wraps, 25 patterns in all. Basic crochet instructions and illustrations, terms and abbreviations and explanations of special stitches are provided. The standard yarn weight system is included for yarns, gauge ranges and recommended needle and hook sizes. Skill levels are listed for each project so you can start with the easiest project if you are a beginner. These “on the go” projects are easy to work when traveling and fast projects for home when you want to whip up something for yourself or as a gift. |
