Beading with Right Angle Weave by Christine Prussing
ISBN 1-931499-50-0, Softbound, 122 pages, $21.95, Interweave Press, 201 East Fourth Street, Loveland, CO 80537, 800-272-2193, www.interweave.com

Right angle weave is a joy for some and a real pain for others.  For those of you who hate the one needle process, Christine has authored this book with every step broken down into easy instructions and illustrations using two needles, bringing you “no tears” beading pleasure.

A little bead history and supply information is provided following by instructions to read patterns and how right angle actually works.  You will learn when one needle works clockwise for a stitch and other times works counterclockwise to start.  Once you have the basics, easy small samples are made using these basic stitches such as key rings and necklaces.

Next you learn turns, increases and decreases, again with easy steps, and each step fully explained.  You will learn to work open, lacy beadwork that can be worn as is or the spaces filled with more bead embellishment.

As you work through each new right angle technique, Christine provides easy projects to make with those stitches.  There are ruffles, triangle tubes, beaded beads, cubes, square frames, what she calls tablets which are built up pieces in rectangular form or triangular in shape.

You can string the beaded beads, cubes and wheels you make or incorporate them into other jewelry.  I love beaded beads because there is so much you can do with them.  If you work with fibers, you can add some of these beaded beads to your shawls or other wearables.

In addition to key chains and beaded beads, there are necklaces, jabots, bracelets, little bags, lariats, eyelash leashes and earrings.  Within each of these categories are several variations of the project; example, a bracelet can be lacy and open, triangular tube, lei shaped and ruffles using the stitches you have mastered.

The gallery spans 22 pages, with inspirational beadwork by several bead artists.  The gallery will spur you imagination and give you ideas of the diversity in right angle weave.

If you like to work right angle weave with one needle as I do, the illustrations and instructions will still be of value to you and you can make all the projects using one needle instead of two.  Right Angle Weave is an excellent addition for the bead world.
