Beauty
in Beads by
Mary Harrison Here is a smorgasbord of goddess, doll and diva figures to make as the main piece or an addition to other beadwork or wearables. Toho beads are the main material and a brief history of this bead is included. Other bead types can be substituted for Toho beads. There are illustrations of Toho beads; triangles and the small and large round beads. There are complete instructions for brick stitch and peyote stitches including how to start, adding new thread, increasing and decreasing of beads. There are step-by-step illustrations that accompany the instructions plus additional instructions that are unique to each project. Each figure can be what you want, to represent a goddess, diva or a doll, you decide. The goddess pin includes a face bead button and hand charms. There are instruction for making a book and then embellishing it; small beaded bags; hour glass figure pendants; beaded doll; bracelet; beaded goddess bracelet; tassels, tube doll that includes wire and a bead embellish gourd. There are also dolls with beaded heads using peyote stitch in the round. The illustrations show building up in a circular fashion with peyote, over a wooden bead and then adding the other side. I am pleased that suppliers were included for all the charms, doll head buttons and other material to finish the figures. No source was given for the tiny gourds. Some of the designs are fast and easy, others will take more time to complete. Beauty in Beads is presented in a friendly, easy to follow fashion, a good project book for doll lovers and beaders in general. |
